Newsweek reports scientists are developing regenerative dental fillings that “allow teeth to heal themselves,” which could help some patients avoid needing root canal treatment. The treatment works by “stimulating stem cells to encourage the growth of dentin—the bony material that makes up the majority of the tooth—allowing patients to effectively regrow teeth that are damaged through dental disease.” At Sun Family Dental, conservative dental treatment is an essential part of our philosophy. Whilst this new filling material is still years away from being used on human patients, it is definitely a step in the right direction. We feel like this will be a highly beneficial treatment option in the future for our patients.
